Here at Naikoon, we know that our success is based on the people we work with. That’s why we have 360 degree performance reviews every 6 months for all our employees – even Joe, our owner and President! At the same time, we do career planning sessions to ensure we help our employees develop and grow, along with our company.
Today, we want to take you behind the scenes of our performance reviews and career planning sessions, sharing what it’s like to work with us!
Behind the scenes at Naikoon
Every 6 months, we do our performance reviews and career planning sessions for a week. It’s alway a marathon, as we spend 30-45 minutes with each person, talking about their goals at Naikoon and for their career in general.
This is the perfect chance to make sure our employees – and employers – are meeting their full potential, as well as to support their next stage of growth.
We collect anonymous 360 degree feedback to provide candid input for the review process. Again, we all participate, with everyone from our newest employee to Joe being reviewed.
Why do we do this?
Firstly, we want to make sure that everyone gets the same treatment. Secondly, we want to have a process so that everyone’s voice is heard. So if employees have any issues with managers, supervisors, or even our accountant (though she’s so lovely, we can’t imagine that happening!), this is their chance to speak up privately.
Also, if employees have ideas they want to raise but feel nervous about, this gives them that chance too.
These performance reviews and career planning sessions were especially exciting because we had new internal training manuals so everyone could review our processes, mission and vision statements, their roles and responsibilities, and most importantly, their career opportunities at Naikoon!
Why Naikoon is so committed to performance reviews and career planning sessions
We are often asked why Naikoon has performance reviews and career planning sessions twice a year. The truth is… we care about everyone who works with us. We know all our team members chose to work with us – and to give us their best work each and every day. If they didn’t do that, we wouldn’t be able to create our quality green builds.
In order to support our team members and honour the commitment they make to Naikoon, we do everything we can to create the best work environment possible and to support our team members’ growth.
Beyond Naikoon’s performance reviews
Beyond our performance reviews and career planning sessions, we engage in a number of other initiatives with our team members and subcontractors.
After every project, we review our subcontractors and they review us. This allows us to improve our practices and communication, ensuring we are giving our subcontractors what they need. We also believe that feedback helps everyone get better at their jobs, which can only benefit our clients.
We are also holding an AGM (Annual General Meeting) where we’re getting everyone together in a room to talk about last year’s performance and next year’s vision.
Finally, we promote continued education and training for our employees, encouraging them to grow with Naikoon. How do we do that? Well, we put our money where our mouth is, having an education program and an unlimited education funding for all our employees!
Right now, we have 10 guys about to complete a program with the Canadian Home Builders Association of BC. Before that, our whole management team took the Passive House Canada Course from Passive House Canada (and this is what we learned).
